The Casone de Fazio was built around 1925 at an altitude of about 1120 meters in an area known as Acqua Carpegna. On the right side of the hut there is a fountain with spring water: it is advisable to stock up on water here before undertaking the final climb to Pizzo San Michele. Not far from the building you can see the remains of an ancient calcara where the lime used for the construction of the buildings on the summit was cooked.

On the top there is the highest sanctuary dedicated to the cult of Saint Michael the Archangel in Italy which is the destination of processions throughout the year. Some rooms of the sanctuary are always open to be used as a refuge by hikers

In the locality of Ogliara, immersed in the Serino forest, there is the city wall of the "Civita di Ogliara", according to tradition, it is that of the mythical Sabatia, city of the Hirpini, whose inhabitants, following its destruction, were forced to flee thus giving life to the residential areas of Serino, Solofra, Montoro and Montella

With fresh snow the route is tiring but at the same time it is well marked and therefore worth it because reaching the summit means seeing a breathtaking view.

From here, take the CAI 115 path to reach Pizzo San Michele. There is a fairly bumpy paved road that allows you to reach the place, with an open space for parking
