Long straight stretch towards Mesagne. The road surface isn't the best in some sections, but it's still rideable with a road bike. I recommend wider tires; then you can really rip here 🚴💨

A beautiful, long, straight road to Mesagne. The asphalt is unfortunately not so good in some sections. But if you stay close to the edge, the route is also rideable on a road bike. Wider tires are definitely an advantage, though. So, it's definitely more comfortable on a gravel bike.

The certain evidence of the construction of the Norman Swabian castle of Mesagne dates back to the beginning of the 11th century, when, with the Norman reconquest of Puglia, Roberto d'Altavilla known as Guiscardo erected a castrum to defend the city (1062-1063). The term castrum was synonymous not only with "fortified place", but also with "jurisdictional, military, economic, religious center...".

Inside the Torre Guaceto nature reserve there is the sandy beach of Penna Grossa, the only beach in the reserve. It can be accessed from the Penna Grossa road which leads to the free beach. Excellent for a stop and relaxation.
