The monastery was founded in 1142 by Guarnerio II, Duke of Spoleto and Marchese of Ancona, possibly on the site of a Benedictine monastery that already existed in 1098, and was settled in the same year by the Chiaravalle Milanese monastery under the leadership of Abbot Ugo. After the suppression of the Jesuit order in 1773, the Fiastra monastery passed to the Marquises Bandini di Camerino, who converted the monastery into a country residence. The church was transferred to the Augustinians a few years later and finally became a parish church in 1963.

The amphitheater, built outside the city walls on the Salaria Gallica in 81 AD, is one of the best-preserved in the Marche. Commissioned by Lucius Flavius Silva Nonius Bassus, it still serves as a stage for theatrical performances today. The elliptical structure could accommodate about 5,000 spectators. It measures 93.5 meters along its major axis and 71.5 meters along its minor axis, covering an area of around 5,000 square meters. The surrounding wall is decorated with semi-circular niches where statues were placed. Tunnels run beneath the arena, which served as a passage for gladiators and animals.
