In 1822 the first brine cures were administered in Sülze and in 1824 the institutional spa business was started with the Grand Ducal Soolbadeanstalt (Kurhaus). Salt production was discontinued in 1907 due to inefficiency and the last load of salt was solemnly driven out of the city. During this time, Sülze continued to gain importance as a brine and moor bath. In 1927 the city was recognized as a health resort and was allowed to call itself Bad Sülze. In 1993 the new median clinic was opened and the old spa clinic closed.
