I still remember the oil crisis and the Sunday driving ban of the 1970s. Although I was too young to understand much of it, it was clear that they were looking for a way to become more independent from oil supplies. These things were parked all around the circle; I THINK I remember many around the village of Neubokel. They were constantly bobbing and bobbing up and down – as a little kid, I thought they were very cute 😉

One of the few cafés that's also open on Mondays! There's a small lunch menu (12-3 p.m.) with things like schnitzel or currywurst; otherwise, they serve coffee and cake. I passed the time waiting by paying an extra €5 to walk through the amazingly large garden (children under 12 would have been free). That seemed like a steep price at first, but the garden is beautiful, blooming, and buzzing with life. I was pretty impressed and thought it was definitely worth the entrance fee. There's a playground for the little ones, grandma and grandpa can easily navigate the paths with their walkers, and there are plenty of benches. There are also lots of carved animals to discover – really lovely, so I didn't mind the not-so-great cake 😁
