The building dates back to the hospital chapel of the St. Jürgen or Georgen Hospital, located northeast of the city in the Middle Ages. The chapel is depicted with a pointed tower on the Loitz veduta at the edge of the Lubin map. Dowager Duchess Sophie Hedwig had the building rebuilt as a cemetery chapel in 1619. The hospital's former cemetery was then used as the municipal cemetery. The round-arched Renaissance portal dates from this period. During the occupation of Swedish Pomerania by Napoleonic troops in 1807, the chapel served as a powder magazine. It was then used as a warehouse and mortuary until it was restored as a church in 1857. During renovations required in 1953, it was renamed the Luther Church. It is used by the parish as a winter church. On the south wall of the church are the gravestones of the royal Swedish district captain of Loitz, Michael Christian Schulemann (1668–1724), and the regimental pastor and assessor of the war consistory, Christian Friderici († 1709).
