Parish Church of St. John The Ottersweier parish is one of the oldest in Middle Baden and was first documented over 1200 years ago. Several church buildings have been proven to exist at this site. During the construction of the large neo-Gothic church (1906-1909), care was taken to preserve important parts of the medieval predecessor churches. On the south tower, parts of the Romanesque choir tower (around 1200) can be clearly recognized. The late Gothic choir (1517) became the current entrance hall. Together with the arcade passage to the rectory on the east side, the complex forms a unified overall work of art. Further information can be found on the information stand in the church. On the square in front of the church, a memorial column (1910) with a statue of the blessed Margrave Bernhard von Baden commemorates the fallen of the war of 1870/71.

The parish church of St. Martin in Großweier was built in 1902 in the Neo-Gothic style. It has a four-part peal from the Schilling bell foundry from 1953, which rings in a minor motif. The Neo-Gothic bell tower, located to the side of the entrance area, houses the four bells in a wooden bell frame. In one of the intermediate floors, there is also a historically valuable clockwork mechanism. The tower is equipped with clock faces on all four sides. Bells 1, 2, and 4 are integrated into the striking mechanism: Bells 2 and 4 strike the quarter hours, while the largest bell, Bell 1, strikes the hours.

The water of the Brandbach stream plunges down here through a narrow gorge called Gaishölle. Over the centuries, the great drop in the water has washed away the huge rocks and boulders lying on the valley floor. This created a wild and romantic forest gorge with many waterfalls. In the past, it was not possible to walk normally through the valley. If you wanted to cross the gorge, you had to "geißen", meaning to move like a chamois (goat) by climbing. The "Hölle" (hell) is an old name for a narrow, wild area with many rocks and stones. In 1880, a hiking trail was first created through the wild and romantic Gaishölle. The maintenance and care of this trail then led to the founding of a special "beautification society" in 1882, today's "Heimat- und Verkehrsvereines Sasbachwalden". Some interesting data: Trail length: approx. 800 m Steps: 225 Bridges: 13 Elevation difference: 154 m Access Murbergstraße: 338 m above sea level

Not only is the bike ride up worthwhile because of the view, but it is especially worthwhile because it goes quickly downhill on the other side 😜
