The lighthouse was built in 1858 and sits proudly on the bottom of Samsø. The history of the building is fascinating (it's around 20 DKK to enter), or the view and surrounding area is worth stopping for alone.

Nestled just on the edge of the island, these Bronze Age Burial Mounds near Sælvig Bay make for an interesting stop. The site is around 6,000 years old, and the view is also excellent.

A worthwhile destination with beautiful views from the top of the tower across the meadows to the Baltic Sea. For me, it was a welcome rest stop on my hike around the North Island.

Sælvig is a bay that forms the southern part of the large, crescent-shaped Vester Hedekrog Bay on the west coast of Samsø in the Kattegat Sea. To the northeast, where Sælvig meets Mårup Vig, there was a canal in the Viking Age, the Kanhavekanalen, which crossed the island and led to Stavns Fjord in the east. The bay is located northwest of Onsbjerg and gave its name to the settlement of Sælvig in the municipality of Onsbjerg. Today, the bay is popular with bathers and windsurfers.
