The church is currently managed by the local Alpini group. Documents from 1574 attest to bequests for the construction or renovation of the building, which was guarded over the centuries by laypeople residing in the structure annexed to the church.

The nature trail (CAI trail 565 C) follows ancient high-altitude paths and the central point of the excursions is the summit where San Defendente stands at an altitude of 674 m, in the territory of Esmate. San Defendente offers an extraordinary view of the lake, from Lovere to Monte Isola to the southern shore, and of Corna Trentapassi, the imposing and steep mountain that dominates the Brescia shore. For this reason, it is among the most beloved places in Solto Collina, a destination for walks and a popular festival on the first Sunday of July.
