History and Architecture The construction of the sanctuary began shortly after the miracle and was completed in 1520. Initially, the building was a small country oratory dedicated to the Visitation of Mary. Over the centuries, the sanctuary has undergone numerous expansions and modifications to accommodate the growing number of pilgrims.
