In 1450, the town wall of Altentreptow with originally three town gates was built. The Brandenburg Gate is the southern one of them. After the Thirty Years' War, large parts of the town wall and the rampart were demolished. In addition to the Brandenburg Gate, the Demmin Gate (with a high tower) and remains of the fortifications were preserved. Later, the gate served as a small prison.
