Further down (towards Palermo) the road is closed (as of autumn 2024). But the view is spectacular.

Beautiful views of the valley and the surrounding mountains. Little traffic but with frequent damage to the road surface, so be careful when descending

Since 2021, the road has been closed from this point and several hundred metres further down due to a massive rockfall. Despite protests from the local population, there is currently no sign of the road being cleared or repaired. To get to Palermo you have to take a long diversions (approx. 15 kilometres). Apparently no further safety measures have been taken, so it is not advisable to avoid the closure. Nevertheless, you have a fantastic and quiet view from the sections above.
