A lovely, lush green forest trail with a smooth gravel surface — one of the most enjoyable stretches of the ride. Shaded and peaceful, great in summer heat.

In December 1927, a new railway depot with a fleet of more than 40 steam locomotives was opened in Heidelberg. The tower served as the depot's water supply, primarily for the locomotives' feedwater. Since the post-war years, the rooms in the annexes have been used as a railway training and apprenticeship workshop for metalworkers and high-voltage electricians. The water tower's reservoir was in use until the 1970s. In 1989, the building was listed as a historical monument. Excerpts from https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tankturm Information on its current use can be found here: https://www.tankturm.de/ An event venue with lunch available for everyone. Monday to Friday from 12:00 to 1:30 pm.

The 55-meter-high building, painted in a striking "far-blue" color, creates a highly visible and attractive landmark in Heidelberg: It is enveloped by a cable net from which a helical staircase is suspended. Reflective plates, which will move in the wind, will be attached to the cable net – symbols of flexibility and the flow of energy. A crown-like roof structure will house a rooftop terrace with a restaurant. End of 2026: Blu – Dining with a View More information here: https://www.swhd.de/energiespeicher
