The chapel, built in 1753, was initiated by Pastor Markus Friedl, who also financed the construction out of his own pocket. For the new chapel, the retired priest was given a parish plot on the site where a wooden chapel already stood. This was demolished. The new stone church was designed in the form of the "Holy House of Loreto." This was common in the 17th century (often after noble pilgrims returned from a Loreto pilgrimage). Next to the Loreto Chapel, he built a small wooden house, called a hermitage, to which he had a 45-foot (14-meter) high stone bell tower added (it is the present church tower). Friedl lived here like a hermit, holding services for the Burgstall residents and teaching the local children. (https://kirchenundkapellen.de/kirchen/burgstall.htm)

The Romanesque church was probably built on a hill between 1250 and 1300. The roof structure dates from the late 15th century. In 1520, the patron saints of St. Aegidius and St. Walburga were mentioned. Later, the church patron saint was St. Mary Magdalene, today St. Philip and Walburga. The interior ceiling was redesigned in 1760. A sacristy extension was added in the 19th century. (Wikipedia)
