The 2500m high Torre de los Horcados Rojos was quite challenging for me but doable, a great destination at the end of an obviously very popular tour starting from the mountain station of the Fuente Dé cable car - the king tour of my holiday this year. Partially breathtaking views in all directions, even if you don't stand dangerously close to the edge. Shortly before the summit, there is a somewhat hairy crossing from a fore-summit to the very top - I went to the left and then up, but some others also went straight up on the right side.

The lakes were almost dry at the beginning of September - but still a welcome opportunity for a group of sheep to quench their thirst.

My opinion about Lake Enol is that it is the most beautiful and spectacular of the Lagos de Covadonga, and one of the most special mountain landscapes in Asturias. 🌊 Iconic image: its deep lake, the reflected mountains, and the grazing cows create a perfect postcard. 🏔️ Sense of grandeur: it conveys more "high mountain" than Lake Ercina. 📸 Very photogenic: especially with light fog, at dawn, or after rain. 🚶♀️ Accessible: it can be enjoyed without long hikes.

Some tunnels are relatively long, dark, and uneven. A headlamp can be helpful here. You can take a Jeep ride back through the park from Cain with a national park ranger. Very informative. Advance reservations are required.

This is a humble refuge at an altitude of 1,300 metres in the Picos de Europa, which is an intermediate point between the winter resorts of Texu and the Urriellu plain. It has 20 beds, an open kitchen for guests, a fireplace and a wood stove. It also offers a food service and a bar.
