Parish church for the citizens of the town, Payerne As in several other Cluniac priories, there was a parish church for the citizens of the town next to the priory church, to which only the monks had access. It was built on the site where, as documented in writing, the first chapel of Abbot Marius stood in the year 587. The current parish church was built from the second half of the 13th century onwards and was heightened at the beginning of the 16th century. It continues to be used as a church by the people of Payerne, who have been Reformed since 1536.
