From here you can walk around the l'Étang Fleckenstein, with a small part of the path running along the road. If you wish, you can take the leisurely path to the Château Fort du Fleckenstein via Gimbelhof, or a steep, shorter path at the other end of the pond. The public, free car park and also the paths to the Château are on the other side of the road; - not on the side of the pond. A circular route to the former fortress is just under 7 km long.

Here stands a former customs post hut (Zöllnerschutzhütte) at a former "restricted and temporarily guarded authorized border crossing point for local border traffic" between Nothweiler (D) and Wingen (F). "The border was finally established in 1826 between France and Germany (then the Kingdom of Bavaria). [...] In the years 1871 to 1918 and 1939 to 1945, the border had no significance. The [customs guard] hut was built in 1969. The residences of the customs officers and their families were located from 1922 in Hauptstraße 5 and from 1937 in Hauptstraße 34. On January 1, 1993, border controls were discontinued due to the EU's Schengen Agreement." Source (quoted verbatim): Information board on site

St. Anne's Chapel near Niederschlettenbach is a medieval pilgrimage chapel containing the tomb of the knight Hans von Droth (also known as Troth or Trotha). Saint Anne is the patron saint of miners and boatmen. This suggests that the chapel was built on this site to praise God, as mining was practiced in the Wasgau region from an early period. A former iron ore mine is also located in the immediate vicinity.

Saint Anne is the mother of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the grandmother of Jesus Christ—not attested in the biblical texts. She is mentioned, however, in apocryphal (i.e., not included in the canon of the Bible) writings, for example, in the so-called "Protoevangelium of James." There is no historically verified information about Anne's life, but numerous traditional stories exist, summarized, for example, in the medieval "Legenda Aurea" by the Dominican monk Jacobus de Voragine. Among many other places of worship—such as this one—she is the patron saint of St. Anne's Church in Düren (North Rhine-Westphalia), where a piece of her skullcap has been kept and venerated as a relic since the early 16th century. In the church calendar, Saint Anne's feast day—together with her husband Joachim—is July 26th.

On July 25, 1870, during the Franco-Prussian War, Ferdinand Graf von Zeppelin, along with eleven other men, was assigned to a reconnaissance patrol in Alsace, France, to determine the enemy's troop strength. He was initially captured by French troops, but managed to escape and reach Palatinate soil near Hirschthal. From there, he continued through the Wegelnburg area to Nothweiler. A villager helped him water his horse at the well, which is why the well has been named after it ever since.
