"Great bike path! But on Father's Day, it's best to wear a helmet and have a backup plan—there are more carts than bikes on the road. Road cyclists are better off taking the parallel road and avoiding the slalom course."

Info from: https://www.tourismus-thueringer-wald.de/kulturregion/mittelalterlicher-wohnturm-wandersleben In 1985, people were amazed when a tower was discovered during the demolition of a dilapidated half-timbered house. It turned out that it was a residential tower built around 1250 and was part of a larger manor house. The administrators of the complex were the Lords of Wittern. They once served the Counts of Gleichen as so-called ministerials. When Gleichen Castle was besieged by troops of Saxon electors around 1450, the residential tower also burned down and lost its rich interior. Around 1600, it was integrated into a newly built four-sided courtyard. After frequent changes of ownership, the dilapidated buildings became municipal property in 1975. During demolition work on the complex in 1985, the residential tower was rediscovered and later restored. Since 2006, the Wandersleben History and Local History Society has been looking after the tower and farm complex.
