I've been in the area many times, but I wasn't familiar with this chapel. Therefore, I think this place deserves to be called a highlight. Highly recommended.

About one kilometer south of the village lies the St. Anne's Chapel, perched on a wooded hill. This secluded, isolated location affords the place a high degree of privacy and tranquility, making it a perfect place for contemplative visits and meditation. Even when the chapel is closed, one can retreat here for a peaceful rest, just as people did centuries ago. So it's not surprising that a hermitage inhabited by hermits once stood here. Their primary purpose was to pray for the chapel's builders, their families, and their subjects.

Rohrau Castle, whose origins are uncertain and which was first mentioned in 1240, came into the possession of the Harrach family in 1524, who converted it into a Renaissance moated castle. The history of the castle and the Harrach family is closely linked to the Habsburg monarchy, in which the family played an important political role. After destruction in the Second World War and extensive renovation work starting in 1966, the castle was reopened in 1970 and the family collection was presented to the public.

Joseph Haydn was born on March 31, 1732 in the thatched-roof farmhouse that the master wheelwright Mathias Haydn built around 1728 and spent the first six years of his life there. On September 13, 1737, his brother Michael, also highly talented in music, was born. Even though the two composers left their parents' home when they were still children, they still remained connected to their birthplace for life.
