On the edge of the so-called Salzforst (Salt Forest) near Bad Neustadt lies a Marian pilgrimage site worth a visit, especially for its tranquil location off the beaten track: Unterebersbach, romantically nestled on the upper reaches of the Saale River, attracts visitors with its unassuming yet beautiful pilgrimage and parish church of the Annunciation of Mary. According to legend, the small church was built in thanksgiving for the miraculous rescue of a hunter who had become hopelessly lost in the Salzforst (Salt Forest). Furthermore, the cozy church is also popularly known as the Church of the Snows. Since 1723, a copy of the highly venerated image of the "Salus Populi Romani" from the Roman church of Santa Maria Maggiore has hung here, commemorating the legendary Miracle of the Snows. This three-span, round-arched bridge from the 18th century was the former Saale Bridge to Hollstadt. On the bridge is a late Baroque sandstone statue depicting Saint Nepomuk. This is fitting for the location, as Nepomuk is considered the bridge saint and patron of the seal of confession.
