This chapel is dedicated to Saint Nicholas of Myra and is among the oldest buildings in the region. Its construction was undertaken around the year 1167 by the Valaisian Canons of Montjoux of the Great Saint Bernard. Once a place of worship for the priory housing a few monks, it rose in the heart of a generous forest, property of the lord of Estavayer. These venerable religious were entrusted with the noble mission of sanitizing and building a prosperous agricultural village.
