As early as the mid-1930s, the idea arose to develop the Hammer as a museum, as it was the only preserved forge in the Osterzgebirge alongside the Freibergsdorfer Hammerwerk and thus represented a significant technical cultural monument. In 1939, the municipality acquired the facility to restore and repurpose it as a museum with the support of the Landesverein Sächsischer Heimatschutz and the Erzgebirgsverein. However, the Second World War initially prevented the implementation of the plans. In 1949, preservation work began again, but it proceeded very hesitantly. It was not until May 1, 1969, that the cultural monument could be made accessible to the public as a technical exhibition facility. In the following years, the outdoor area was also designed. Between 1991 and 2000, renewal and reconstruction work was carried out. The forge (Schwanzhämmer) and the associated plant technology are completely and functionally preserved. A local history room next to the forge provides an insight into life in the Osterzgebirge. Source: Wikipedia

The historic "Alte Elisabeth" mine in Freiberg was one of the most productive silver mines in the well-known Himmelfahrt Fundgrube in the 16th century. Today, the site serves as a training and research mine for the TU Bergakademie Freiberg and has been part of the UNESCO World Heritage site of the Ore Mountains Mining Region since 2019. In addition to the authentic surface facilities, the mine particularly fascinates visitors with a fully functional 1848 beam engine and a unique underground prayer room with an organ.

I would have liked to take a look inside. Unfortunately, it was closed today. So, unfortunately, we couldn't go into the garden either.
