The war memorial in Betzdorf's Rainchen Park (Rainstraße) is a historic monument commemorating the fallen of the First World War. The tiered structure on the west slope of the Bach valley was erected in 1931 and redesigned in 1963 for Volkstrauertag (Mourning Day). In addition to this memorial, Betzdorf also has the POW memorial (often simply referred to as the war memorial) in Schützenstraße, which commemorates soldiers who died in captivity. This monument is part of the regional hiking route "Weg des Erinnerns" (Path of Remembrance) and is very popular. (KI)

Oppressive monument. The "heroes" are remembered, with no trace of reflection on the meaning of their death.
