A comfortable shelter with a pleasant atmosphere. If hiking in down the Dolina Kościeliska, it's a great spot to stop for lunch or a beet before turning back. If attempting longer routes through the mountains, it's an equally great place to spend a night. Comfortable rooms, clean bathrooms and showers, and hearty meals from the kitchen. There are some options for vegetarians, but vegans will be stuck subsisting on chips alone. In April 2026, we found it busy around lunchtime, but much quieter in the evening.

Delicious food, friendly service, and I still have a long way to go before I book my accommodation. I highly recommend learning about the history of the shelter in Pyszniańska Dolina and visiting the Lori Memorial Room at the Ornak Shelter.

It's worth the effort to admire the views from the top of Krzesanica... provided there's visibility :P

In my personal opinion, it is worth ending your adventure with Czerwone Wierchy here, not starting it.

For those with some mountaineering experience, this is a very pleasant peak. For those just starting their adventure, it's a good test of skill. It may seem gentle, but it can be dangerous, especially in winter conditions.

While many trails in the Tatra National Park can be rugged, some sections of the main valleys, like the initial parts of the Kościeliska Valley, may be suitable for strollers, especially those designed for off-road use. For longer, more challenging routes, a baby carrier is generally recommended over a stroller.

However, Kościelisko is also a great destination for winter activities, with cross-country skiing routes through forests and nature reserves.
The Tatra National Park has specific regulations regarding dogs. Generally, dogs are not allowed on most hiking trails within the park to protect wildlife. It's crucial to check the current rules and designated dog-friendly areas before planning your hike with a pet.
