The Paravia Untertritt fortress is part of the Austro-Hungarian defense system and was built entirely underground. Designed to house a garrison of 500 soldiers, it features a two-tiered structure, a typical feature of German-style fortifications. Although not open to the public, visitors can still explore the exterior of this imposing fortress, which is still well-preserved today.

It's a shame about the degradation, a piece of history worth visiting

Overall, I found the route from Banjole to Rovinj a little disappointing, even though it is part of the Euro Velo 8 cycle route. For long stretches I was on very busy roads, had a lot of diesel in my nose and car horns in my ears. Then again, I went over lonely forest paths with muddy paths and large stones, so that at times I had to push the bike. In between, the route was as rated by Alex D, but overall there is still a lot of room for improvement.
