Fort de Bron is part of the defense system created after the 1870 war by General Séré de Rivières. It was one of the detached forts responsible for defending the city of Lyon. Thanks to his guns, he had to prevent the approach of the city to an enemy coming from the plain of the east of Lyon. It is possible today to visit the fort. Memorial located at Fort de Bron, on the edge of the old RN6. On August 18, 1945, a commemorative ceremony took place in the presence of political figures and representatives of the Resistance, and Mayor Marius LEDOUX announced his intention to build a monument in memory of the 109 victims of German barbarism. The mayor of Lyon Édouard HERRIOT offered his help for the construction and a committee was set up to bring the project to fruition.
