Popular around Le Louverot
This fortress, mistakenly called Tour Charlemagne (Tower of the Great), was built at the end of the 12th century by a Burgundian count to defend the village and the abbey of Château-Chalon and to monitor the salt road. Today, only remains of the keep and a pure corner tower are preserved. The tower, with its approximately 2-meter-thick walls, was undoubtedly covered with oak shingles in the past. Arrow slits as well as the places where windows and fireplaces were located are still visible. The fortress was already razed in the time of Louis XI around 1470.
