Founded on March 3, 1103, by the nobleman William de Lovetot for the Canons of St Augustine. It grew into a powerful and well-known center of piety and learning, associated with the creation of notable medieval manuscripts like the Worksop Bestiary and the Tickhill Psalter. Closed on November 15, 1539, during the dissolution of the monasteries under King Henry VIII. Local townspeople successfully fought to keep the nave so it could continue functioning as their parish church.
