A nice place to stay. The terrace is very inviting for having higher-level conversations. (You are 150 meters above sea level) The restaurant is highly recommended... The beautiful menu becomes a reality on your plate and will satisfy your taste buds. Wash it all down with a local beer or a fine wine. It doesn't need to be more than that...

The idyllic Astene Sas is a protected village view and a wonderful place to stop for a while. Babbling water, historic ships, the authentic lock house and one of the last manually operated bascule bridges in Flanders provide a particularly atmospheric setting here. The lock originated in 1860 to avoid a significant detour in the Leie. Cargo ships used to take a whole eight hours to navigate the winding meander between Astene and Bachte. A new, perfectly straight cut of barely 300 meters changed that. The characteristic green-iron bascule bridge dates from 1896 and is still operated by hand during the sailing season. If a boat approaches, you have to wait a moment until the bridge is lifted using pure muscle power. A beautiful piece of living heritage! Literature lovers will also get their money's worth here. The whitewashed lock keeper's house today houses 't Oud Sashuis, a cozy brown café. It is also the birthplace of the mother of Hugo Claus, who spent part of his childhood here. A place where water, heritage and stories come together – ideal for a short break during your cycling or walking tour.

The Bostmolen, also known as the Machelgemmolen, is a watermill on the Zwalm. A first watermill was already mentioned in 1040. In 1571, there was a double mill, set up as a grain and oil mill. The oil mill was on the other side of the stream. The building was dated "1630" by means of anchor bolts in the gable (which indicates a reconstruction) and was demolished shortly after 1933. At the sluice beams by the stream, the year 1782 is on a brick stone. The mill was closed down in 1966 and converted into a café. Because of the jazz performances that were organized there for a time, the mill also became known as the Tootsmolen, after the world-famous jazz musician (harmonica) Toots Tielemans. In 1979, Paul-Joseph Maryns, a teacher in Zottegem, bought the mill. The mill building was restored from 2005 onwards according to a design by architect Sabine Okkerse from Horebeke. This was done in anticipation of a functional restoration. However, the latter has not (yet) been realized. Today, the mill is owned by Olav Maryns, the son of Paul-Joseph, and his wife Kim Lybaert, who run a restaurant there together. source: Molenecho's

Yes and no. If you cycle the Watermill Route, you do have to stop for a while, but we can't speak of any "industrial" beauty here.
