If you don't have time to go to the island of Maddalena, you should at least enjoy the magnificent view from the rest area on the panoramic road above Palau.

The ferry runs every half hour during the day between Palau and La Maddalena. Simply drive on, hand over your deposit (ID) when you get on, pay on board at the ticket office above the parking deck (and then return the deposit there). Not exactly cheap (car including 3 adults and 1 child = €58 return), but on La Maddalena we were even able to explore the whole island including remote beaches with a rental car.

San Pantaleo (SS), the magical place in the heart of the Costa Smeralda (Olbia) A small jewel in the immediate hinterland of the Costa Smeralda: this is San Pantaleo, the characteristic place that lies high on the granite rock formations of the Gallura.
