Chiesetta S.Michele al Monte (Porto Valtravaglia) Church of San Michele al Monte The millennial church of San Michele al Monte is located in the area of the current municipality of Porto Valtravaglia, at about 820 meters. The church of San Michele al Mt. was built to ensure that people who lived in the mountains during spring and summer could attend religious services. The small church of San Michele al Monte has a very simple structure: about 30 square meters, with a semicircular apse facing east according to ancient tradition. The apse, the oldest part of the small church, dating from the second half of the 11th century, features well-aligned rows of stones and pebbles with clear fish-hook bands. The sacristy and bell tower are believed to have been added in the 19th century. In 1965 the roof of the sacristy collapsed. In 2000 the roof was completely rebuilt and walls and foundations were restored. Discoveries followed: in 2001, important frescoes from the 11th to 14th centuries were discovered and restored. Already described in the 15th century, they were later hidden under new paving, and the church was even used to house tools and animals. Text: Porto Valtravaglia Parish

Cascata de la Froda Nasca,(Castelveccana) Castelveccana: Froda Waterfall The Froda waterfall is one of the hidden beauties of the province of Varese. Although it offers a truly spectacular show, in reality it is not as well known and reported as it deserves. But this makes it even more special for those who decide to discover it. After taking the path on the edge of the SP7, you will immediately immerse yourself in a very fascinating natural setting. The route is suitable for everyone and the children will certainly enjoy feeling like little explorers. It is advisable to wear mountain boots: along the path you will have to pass a short ford. In winter, special attention must be paid to ice. Once you arrive under the waterfall, you will be amazed: with its height of about 100 meters, it is a real wonder not to be missed, especially after heavy rains. But even with a slender jet it will amaze you ... An iron rope allows you to approach the waterfall without slipping. Church of San Rocco - Porto Valtravaglia The building was built in 1523 in the center of Porto Valtravaglia, perhaps as a sign of gratitude for the plague survived. It was in fact a simple open chapel, i.e. without a facade, equipped with only one altar on which a Madonna of Loreto was painted, surrounded by saints popularly invoked against plague. 1630 - 1633 complete reconstruction.
