It is a centuries-old Christian tradition to erect a cross or shrine for special occasions or in special places. In this prominent location, however, we encounter a modern version of the cross. The artist has slightly modified the classic version in its design, depicting the crossbeams to the right and left of the main beam not exactly horizontal, but slightly offset and slanted.

The cross was apparently swept away by a storm in January 2024. Reconstruction seems to be planned. Unlike the neighboring Belvédère du Cèdre, the viewpoint is quite overgrown!

The monument in the photo is the **Cannes War Memorial**, located in the city to commemorate the victims of various wars. This monument is dedicated **"À nos morts"** (To our dead) and honors the soldiers and civilians of Cannes who died during the First and Second World Wars, as well as the wars in Indochina and North Africa. The statue shows a triumphant figure, probably an allegory of victory or freedom, with winged angelic features. At the bottom there are inscriptions with the names of the fallen soldiers, and the monument exudes a sense of respect and reverence for the sacrifices made for freedom. These memorials are common in French towns and villages, as a lasting reminder of the tragedies of war and the courage of those who gave their lives. It is a focal point for commemorations, especially on national days such as November 11 (Armistice Day).
