In early 1809, a crack was discovered on the west side of the church tower. On May 9, 1809, the tower was inspected and an expert opinion was prepared. The conclusion was that the crack was not particularly serious and that it should be filled with lime to prevent further weathering. Four weeks later, on Monday, June 12, 1809, the church tower collapsed. It buried three people; one of the injured died eleven days later.[3] War and disputes between the parish, the pastor, and the tax authorities delayed the reconstruction until the dispute was settled in 1814.[4] From 1810 to 1814, the tower was rebuilt and completed on December 19, 1814.[5] Inscription above the entrance door Around 1816/17, the nave was remodeled, and the hall was decorated by Carlo Ignazio Pozzi from Dessau. Since then, the altar, pulpit, and organ, in the Reformation tradition and in the spirit of Enlightenment and Classicism, have formed the center around which the congregation gathers.[6] It was not until 1819 that the church could once again serve its purpose, only after the Prussian King Frederick William III had provided the oak timber needed for the tower repairs, valued at 900 talers, free of charge.[7] Source: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stadtkirche_St._Nikolai_(Bad_D%C3%BCben)

Construction (12th century) Towards the end of the 12th century, the town church was built as the seat of an archpriest of the Diocese of Meissen. It has been rebuilt several times, but its core remains Romanesque to this day. In 1661, the church burned down, but the tower and bells survived.[1] Extensive repairs were carried out on the south side of the church tower in 1742 and 1743.[2] Source: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stadtkirche_St._Nikolai_(Bad_D%C3%BCben)
