The Memorial to the Meeting of the Allied Forces, designed by Soviet soldier and architect Abraham Miletsky and completed in September 1945, attracts thousands of visitors from many countries every year. It commemorates the meeting of the Allied forces on the Elbe River on April 25, 1945, when the end of World War II in Europe was imminent. Part of the commemoration ceremony takes place here on Elbe Day, where veterans, eyewitnesses, relatives of the deceased, ambassadors, and guests gather to remember the many victims and the peace that has prevailed ever since. Many wreaths adorn the Memorial to the Meeting. https://www.torgau-tourismus.de/torgau-erleben/kulturell/geschichte/begegnung-an-der-elbe

Shortly after the turn of the millennium, the time had come. A new market fountain with bronze figures was created and erected between the town hall and the Mohrenapotheke, one of Saxony's oldest pharmacies. Following a competition in 1999, the design "Fools and Musicians" by Glauchau artist Erika Harbort was selected. The larger-than-life figure of Claus Narr, the court jester of Torgau, forms the centerpiece of the fountain. Other figures can be found around the fountain's edges: two water-spouting musicians, a bear, and the jester's dog, Lepsch. https://www.sachsen-impressionen.de/item/marktbrunnen-in-torgau/
