The large pillar of the fountain supports four panels: one depicts Saint Ulrich, another the East Franconian German King Otto I, another the Magyars, and the eastern panel shows data from the city's history. The water emerges from the top of the pillar and flows down the stone into a circular paved basin. The fountain was inaugurated in 1978 by the then mayor Friedrich Wohlfarth and originated from a legend that says Saint Ulrich caused a spring to emerge through prayer or with the help of his bishop's staff to quench his thirst when he rested here on his journey; Ulrich's springs are said not to dry up even in the hottest summers. Originally, the fountain stood west of the old federal highway, but it was moved due to the center's planning. The artist of the fountain is Josef Breitsameter.

According to archaeologist Peter Linke, the grave must be re-evaluated. After the discovery of Ötzi in South Tyrol, which is a milestone in age research.
