Michael (mimirsbrunnen)
September 27, 2025, Ruins of the Monastery Watermill at Chorin

The mill was expanded by the Cistercians and developed into a large workshop, which served as a machine hall and, in addition to milling grain, also facilitated other production processes such as hammering, stamping, and oil-making. The buildings were constructed of granite ashlars, which are still clearly visible today. The mill building was probably originally four stories high and designed as a four-wheel mill with four openings for waterwheel shafts.

Regular cultural events take place, including the popular "Chorin Music Summer," special and art exhibitions, and guided tours. A permanent exhibition, opened in April 2017, provides information about the life and work of the monks, as well as historical discovery and monument preservation efforts. A free app called "Chorin Monastery 3D - At the Time of the Cistercians" allows for a digital exploration of the complex.

The bathing area and its surroundings have changed a lot in recent years. Some of the photos depict a beauty and idyllic setting that no longer exists. There's definitely no bench or it's overgrown. However, swimming is perfectly possible.

On a small hill in the middle of the village of Brodowin stands the neo-Gothic Stüler building from 1852. In 2013, the church was completely renovated and its original appearance – both inside and out – was restored. Until 1848, the village had a Baroque church, which, however, fell victim to a fire. Shortly thereafter, the renowned architect Stüler was commissioned by the Prussian King Frederick William IV to rebuild it.

In the farm shop you can find pictures of King Charles, who has also visited the Demeter farm in Brodowin.

This organic farm has a wonderful farm shop with a large, inviting kitchen for the campers, a lovingly laid out Bible garden that really invites everyone to linger. There are fantastic fruit juices and when you look around you think: everything is organic and a lot of dedication has been put into it. Here we saw the parrot that can sing Hänschenklein... and the Engler couple are fantastic hosts 👍

The monastery is magical and a tour is definitely worth it. You should also stop in at the organic cafe. The prices are really organic, but the Brodowiner Demeter products taste really excellent 👍
