The Oberaudor-Ebbs border power plant was built as the last large hydroelectric power plant on the Inn between 1988 and 1992 by Österreichisch-Bayerische Kraftwerke AG. The power plant was constructed using dry construction methods in an excavation pit in the original Inn riverbed. The facility is designed as a so-called pier power plant, consisting of 3 weir fields and 2 machine piers. The weir fields and machine piers are arranged alternately in an axis perpendicular to the river. This construction method is very space-saving and hydrodynamically efficient. Each of the two machine piers houses 1 Kaplan-Kohr turbine with a horizontal shaft and 1 three-phase generator. The 3 weir fields have an opening of 16m width and 15.5m closure height each.
