Relics from the war. Lost places. Buried in the dunes. Understandable and sad. Never again

It's worth it after visiting the old positions in the dunes. Free entry. It's all understandable and sad. Hopefully never again.

Staal is a nice place in IJmuiden for lunch, dinner or just coffee or a beer.

Although IJmuiden itself is not really inviting, the sea locks are certainly impressive.

Bunker complex from the Second World War that was repeatedly expanded, first to protect the port of Ijmuiden from the Germans, later used and expanded by the German Army. Today the bunkers can largely be visited freely.

There are usually a lot of kite surfers and beach sailors to watch here. One of the beach pavilions (https://beachinn.nl/) burned down two weeks ago - so fundraising campaigns for reconstruction are currently underway.

Bunkermuseum IJmuiden is located on the way to IJmuiden Beach. It was a former coastal artillery position in the Heerenduinen. The bunkers can also be viewed from the outside without a visit. However, access to the interior is only possible through the museum. The museum consists of 6 mostly underground bunkers, which are connected to each other by a circular path. In these bunkers you can admire a large collection where exhibits from all over the world have been brought together. Many of the exhibits come from the German military stock. In addition to the exhibits, documents and the way of life from that time are also vividly presented. It is a piece of contemporary history that is worth seeing for young and old to better understand the history of the war years. The museum is not open all the time. It is only open on the 1st and 3rd Sunday from April to October. Opening hours: Sunday 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m
