The building is dominated by the two slender twin towers of the facade, with copper roofing, 62 meters high. The apsidal part winds from three chapels with bulbous crowns and baroque lanterns. The interior, divided into three Gothic naves with side chapels and a ambulatory, preserves notable works of art, including the 16th-century wooden stalls and the high altar polyptych, from the school of Veit Stoss. Beautiful Renaissance and Baroque tombs of bishops open along the ambulatory and in the side chapels. Behind the presbytery, beyond the ambulatory, opens the axial chapel of the Złota Kaplica, "Golden Chapel", which, decorated in 1836 in Byzantine style, remained intact from the war.

The Poznań Psalter is a late Gothic building erected in the years 1512–1520 on the order of the Bishop of Poznań, Jan Lubrański. Apart from the west wall, damaged during fighting in 1945 and rebuilt along with the roof in 1948, the building is one of the few monuments on Ostrów Tumski to have escaped serious damage. The Psalter is a three-story residential building intended for the College of Twelve Psalterists founded in 1512 (also on the initiative of Bishop J. Lubrański). Their task was to celebrate a votive mass on Holy Cross every day and two weekly masses in Poznań Cathedral and to sing psalms all night long. The building was surrounded by annexes, which were demolished in the years 1860–1861.
