November 6, 2025, Wiltz Castle

After initially being privately owned and serving as a boarding school for the Sisters of the Christian Doctrine (1851–1950), Château de Wiltz was acquired by the Luxembourg state in 1951 to establish an integrated retirement home, which was run by the Carmelite nuns until 1985. Today, it houses the offices of the Tourist Information Office (Syndicat d'Initiative), the St. Sebastian Scouts, and, since September 2012, the Brussels Business Institute of Higher Education (BBI), an international management school for the hotel and tourism industry, as well as the United Business Institutes (UBI), within the castle's historic walls. The 13th-century square tower served as the entrance to the first castle and was accessible via a wooden drawbridge. To the right of it stood the linden tree where court was held, which explains the place's name: Lannepesch.

The actual, first castle of Wiltz was located in Niederwiltz, where the deanery church stands today. It was intended to protect the town from its enemies, but the location was so poorly chosen that it was repeatedly captured. In the 13th century, in search of a more favorable site, the Lords of Wiltz built the new castle on a higher rocky outcrop. Under the reign of Count Jan, construction of the Renaissance castle, which still stands today, began in 1631. The new building was completed around 1720. Today, the castle houses the National Museum of Brewing and the Museum of the Battle of the Bulge, as well as a tourist information center. In June and July, the castle's grand staircase serves annually as the stage for the Wiltz Festival. Concerts, theater events, and other artistic performances are presented live on stage in the magnificent amphitheater against the backdrop of the castle.

As long as the wood doesn't splinter, the crossing is very beautiful, as the bridge leads through the wetland biotope of the Wiltz.

A beautiful paved section between Kautenbach and Wiltz. The trail runs along the Wiltz stream of the same name, sometimes directly along the water and sometimes above it. Beautiful and off-road.

It's a beautiful valley and a great place to cycle. The road is paved and there's virtually no traffic.

Lellingen is considered one of the best-preserved traditional villages in the region. It has been designated a model village by the National Heritage Authority, preserving its authentic character to this day. Lellingen, a charming village in the Oesling region, located about 10 kilometers east of Wiltz, is located at the intersection of three streams: the Lellgerbaach, the Pëntschbach, and the largest, the Clerve, which surrounds the chapel. The original chapel, dedicated to Saint Peter, was probably built around 1750 and consisted of an elongated building with four small windows. In the 19th century, the chapel was expanded and given its definitive form. With its unique architecture, the chapel features a narrow, elongated chancel and a higher, roof-shaped transept. In the center of the transept stands a small tower with a single bell dating from 1840, dedicated to Saint John. The interior is characterized by statues and reliquaries that reflect the rural piety of the Baroque and 19th centuries.
