Viola
July 9, 2024, Cozia National Park

Situated along the valley of one of the longest rivers in Romania, Olt, the area of Cozia National Park extends on over 17,000 hectares and includes Cozia Mountain, partially Capatanii, and Lotrului Mountains. With a maximum altitude of 1,668 meters, these mountains are not nearly as tall as the nearby Fagaras. But their abrupt slopes make hiking here an unexpectedly intense experience that can prove to be difficult during snowy winters.

Short but impressive gorges of the Ialomița river, before it enters the barrage lake Bolboci. From the barrage, the road is mostly asphalt on the right bank, with 2 km of gravel here and there. The left bank road is completely asphalted.

Beautiful panorama. Accomodation and snacks possible at Bolboci chalet or many other villas in the area, up north. The lake tour can be done by bike. Many hiking trails available.

Uniquely romantic mountain hut in the middle of the Carpathian mountains. The surrounding landscape is so untouched that you have the best chances of observing the large wild animals such as deer, bears or bison directly from the window of the hut. In the hut you can, for example, spend the night as part of the guided hike Wolftrail Carpathians. https://travelcarpathia.com/bunea-wilderness-cabin/
