The White Tower and the adjacent riverbank are among the rather hidden but historically fascinating corners of the island of Rügen – more precisely near Putbus in the district of Neuendorf. The White Tower is a striking, whitewashed building directly on the coast of the Greifswalder Bodden.

Ice Age pine? Sounds impressive, but it's complete nonsense. In 2004, the Ostsee-Zeitung described it here as "a relict pine from the Ice Age, belonging to the Scotch pine subgroup." "The pine is probably the only one of its kind on Rügen." But during the last Ice Age, only one thing grew in Lietzow: a glacier several kilometers thick. And Scotch pine is nothing more than the English common name for Pinus sylvestris, the standard Scotch pine found in forests. There are, um… quite a few more of those on Rügen ;) Anyway. The old wind-bent tree is undoubtedly worth seeing and quite special. It's just the Ice Age bit that's rubbish.
