Without a sign, you wouldn't notice that you're walking into another country... It's nice how easy this can be these days.

https://kulturforum-nordfriesland.de/deich-und-sielmuseum-neukirchen/ Just before leaving Neukirchen towards Rosenkranz, the Deich- und Sielmuseum (Dyke and Siel Museum) is located on the right. Along the path, four different panels explain four different dike construction methods. The first dikes were built in the 11th and 12th centuries and served to protect the small polders. In the 15th century, after the great storm surges of 1362 and 1436, the so-called "Golden Ring" was built: dikes with raised crests that protected individual villages. In the following centuries, the sea increasingly encroached on the landscape, so that the outer dikes soon no longer had any foreland. To prevent them from collapsing, stack dikes, vertical plank walls, were built. It wasn't until the 17th century that sea dikes with a gentle slope were developed. Over time, our current dike shape emerged from them.

Nice, small, thatched hut with an information board by the side of the road, which offers shelter in the event of a storm and is also ideal for a rest.
