The village church dates from the mid-13th century and was built entirely of fieldstones as a square chancel church. It was partially destroyed in World War II. Besides the rectangular tower with its two original bells, there was a chapel-like temporary church, which was set up in the rear of the chancel in the 1970s. For many years, the nave was a ruin without a roof. The roofs were replaced in 2013. The building now houses rooms for church activities and space for cultural events. A permanent exhibition commemorates Eduard Arnold. Source: https://www.werneuchen-barnim.de/portal/seiten/sehenswertes-in-hirschfelde-900000107-30690.html

In the heart of the small village of Hirschfelde near Werneuchen stands one of the oldest churches in the region: a fieldstone building dating back to the 13th century. The nave, chancel, and transept tower date from the early period, while the tower top was added in the 15th century. Heavily damaged in World War II, the church remained a ruin for decades. Only through the efforts of a support association was it restored and rededicated in 2015. Particularly noteworthy are two bronze bells dating from around 1300 – they are among the oldest in Brandenburg. Today, the village church is once again the center of the village and invites you to take a short break and enjoy a historical perspective on hiking or cycling tours through the Barnim region.

We were there today (July 26, 2025). Unfortunately, the path is overgrown and not pleasant to walk on. We aborted the hike. The memorial plaque has also been altered; it's been concreted over with a spray-painted inscription: "Never again fascism." I can't say if it was intentional. Still, a beautiful piece of forest!
