The church was first mentioned in 1409. The choir under the church tower dates from this period. In the 19th century, a storey was added, which was designed with eight gables and a slanted, octagonal ridge turret in neo-Romanesque style. In 1493 the church was rebuilt. The sacristy with a ribless cross vault was created next to the chancel. The nave, which was raised in 1837 and received a flat ceiling, also dates from that time. The pointed arch windows in the choir, the triumphal arch between the choir with its pointed vault and the nave and the tabernacle on the north wall are late Gothic. The entrance portal was originally on the north side and was moved to the west wall. The simple interior has been decorated in white and red tones since 1988. The Fürstenweg was used by the dukes of Hildburghausen as a ruler's route to the Schönbrunn hunting lodge until 1826. When resting halfway, the hunters' dogs were tied to the dog tree. Hence the name as explained on the sign.

The Sola hut on Bauerrangen, on the western slope of the 578 meter high Solaberg, was built in 1957 by the district forester at the time, Fröbel from Bürden, with the support of craftsmen and forest workers from Poppenwind." So the Poppenwinders have a special relationship with the hut.
