During excavations in 2006-2008, a stately theater was found alongside traces of Roman settlement and a sanctuary. It offered 36 rows of seats in a semicircle and space for around 3,500 spectators! After the construction was initially made mostly of wood, the sanctuary and theater were completely built out of stone around 300 AD. Behind the stage area, a wide view of the valley opened up. Visitors can still enjoy this today, as the complex has been freely accessible since 2013. Since 1997, the entire plateau has been a monument zone, after all, a romantic hermitage was built under Prussian aegis according to plans by the famous Prussian architect Schinkel. The Elisensitz was built in 1833 on the orders of Crown Prince Friedrich Wilhelm of Prussia. This lookout point was designed by Karl Friedrich Schinkel during the expansion of the hermitage as a tomb for the blind King John of Bohemia. During several visits by the royal family to Kastel-Staadt, this lookout point was the favorite place of his wife, Crown Princess Elisabeth of Bavaria, who was incidentally the aunt and godmother of the famous Empress Sisi. From the Elisensitz rest area, you have a wonderful view over the Pinschbach valley and the Runder Turm rock formation all the way to the Altfels.

The theater was discovered only a few years ago and proves that the area had been inhabited for a long time.
