Increasing long-distance and freight train traffic, in particular, necessitates the expansion of the entire line between Berlin-Spandau and Nauen. The existing two tracks are no longer sufficient to handle the growing rail traffic volume. Therefore, additional tracks are planned along the entire route. At Finkenkrug station, both the pedestrian tunnel and the Karl-Marx-Straße railway overpass are wide enough to accommodate additional tracks. Passengers at Finkenkrug station will benefit from the expansion plans in many ways. The planned platform extension to 220 meters will enable the use of longer trains with more seats. The additional tracks will relieve existing timetable constraints and allow regional services between Berlin-Spandau and Nauen to run at a regular 20-minute frequency. Furthermore, travel times to Berlin will be reduced. More information about the overall project can be found at: www.i2030.de/west/.
