A tourist hotspot in every season. One of the most frequented places in the Northern Black Forest. Still beautiful. The Mummelsee is a cirque lake below the summit of the Hornisgrinde, the highest mountain in the Northern Black Forest. It was formed in the Ice Age by the erosive work of a cirque glacier.

Donkey Well ǀ Consent In 1191, after the death of her husband, Welf VI, Uta von Schauenburg wanted to found a monastery. According to legend, in order to find a place to build the monastery, she had a donkey laden with money in her castle at Gaisbach (which refers to Schauenburg Castle) and set off wherever God would lead it. The donkey set off, and on the hill where the donkey well still stands today, the animal struck the ground with its hoof, and a fresh spring sprang forth. It quenched its thirst and continued on to the top of the hill, threw down the sack, and it rolled down to the banks of the Nordbach stream. Now the place where the monastery was to be built had been found. Source: From the book The Legends and Folk Tales of the Germans by Friedrich Gottschalck from 1814.
