Now and then you pass old railway operating buildings and facilities, such as loading and unloading ramps or the old Grabau station.

The Nienwohlder Moor is a lesser-known moor in the north of Hamburg. The Bahnradweg (railway cycle path) passes by it, as well as some great gravel and single trails. I like to ride here because there is not much going on and the landscape is great. If it's a windy day, you'll get the full force of the wind due to the flat surface.

This path is a highlight for gravel bikes. Once you've made it out of Hamburg and into this area, it's well worth riding here instead of taking the cycle path that runs parallel. You get an insight into the moor and can go even deeper into the moor at some points and have a look around. On the edge of the route are wide cow pastures as well as flat moor and grass areas. The surface is very changeable. Every now and then the ditch on the moor is dredged, then parts of the path are difficult to ride on due to the heavy equipment.

Burg Stegen has now been restored for visitors. There is currently a goat enclosure, several picnic areas with shade, some information boards and bicycle parking spaces. It has turned out well. The trail itself is very easy to ride with a gravel bike!

You can sit outside at Matthies, although the street is quite busy. But the cakes, rolls, and coffee are great.
