For many generations, this place in the old village center of Bitzen was an important meeting point: The milk stand! The community servant, known as "Schütz", announced community notices with the help of his "Ortsschelle" (local bell). The youth gathered to "hatch" pranks, and the elders met for a chat. Originally, a small "Spritzenhaus" (fire engine house) built of bricks stood on the property. The equipment for firefighting was stored in it. It must have been built before the year 1892. In 1942, a barrack was built onto the Spritzenhaus. From here, the population of the "Berge" (mountain) was supplied with milk, upon presentation of the corresponding food ration cards. Later, this was also the "central collection and sales point for milk and other dairy products". This is how it got its colloquial name "Milchbude" (milk stand). ... A memorial cross commemorates and warns of a tragic event shortly before the end of the Second World War: on March 8, 1945, the Becher siblings (Walburga, Regina, Richard and Albert) as well as the family Wilhelm and Maria Becher and their son Walter from Bonn were killed by aerial bombs on Hof Holschbach.

Unfortunately, the detour to the viewpoint is very hidden and easy to miss. Only a sign indicates it at second glance. Otherwise, you wouldn't guess that this beautiful viewpoint is located just a few meters off the path.

The picnic area overlooks an industrial park and residential buildings. Not really worth a detour.

As with many (viewpoint) points whose name includes the element "Ley" (or "Lay"), such a name indicates slate as the subsoil rock. Since we are here - geologically speaking - in the "Rhenish Slate Mountains", the number of corresponding "Ley" locations is not surprising.
